Jawbone JAMBOX (Black Diamond)

January 26th, 2012

Design:

This unusual and eye catching speaker measuring 6 x 1.6 x 2.8 inches, and is very lightweight making it extremely portable. It is constructed out of stainless steel and has a molded rubber casing that makes it as durable as it is efficient.

Features:

This amazing little powerhouse connects to any Bluetooth device, such as tablets, computers, mobile phones and more.  In addition to the wonderful wireless convenience, you can conduct phone calls using the built in microphone, whether it’s conference calls or single person to person calls.  Your calls will be crisp and clear.  Has a terrific way to keep your Jawbone Jambox updated, with the MyTalk portal which has apps, all kinds of new features and updates.

The speaker has an internal rechargeable battery that gives you up to 10 hours of play time, making the most of its powerful speaker system.  This little speaker packs a whopping 85 decibels, making it great for listening to music in ever larger, noisier rooms with no problem.

Listen to music, make phone calls from your car easily and keep your hands on the wheel where they belong with the excellent wireless capability.

Performance:

The performance of Jawbone Jambox is unbelievable and when you see how small it is and how it easily fits anywhere, you will be blown away by the sound and volume that comes pumping out of it.   You are unlikely to find a speaker of comparable size that comes anywhere near the quality of what the Jawbone Jambox gives you.

If you turn the volume up to max levels, you may experience some distortion, especially on the lower bass sounds, but this can be remedied by just lowering the volume a bit.  This speaker is great for what it is designed for.  If you want superior, high quality sound at any volume level, you will more than likely need to get more of a stereo speaker set rather than this one for the smaller blue tooth devices.

The Good:

There’s almost too many “goods”  to list, but the incredible sound quality,  the convenient size and attractive color choices are just three of the goods that this amazing speaker offers.  Doubling as a speaker phone, completely wireless, and always staying updated with the MyTalk account and automatic updating, those who invest in this are investing in quality they won’t be disappointed in.

The Bad:

One of the only things that can be said about this device that is negative is the price, which many think is way too high.  Granted it’s a very small device, but the only thing small IS the size.  There are sales that go on that you can get this speaker for lower than retail price, so keep your eyes open.

The Bottom Line:

It’s just really hard to go wrong with the Jawbone Jambox.  Not only is the size convenient to carry around in your purse, backpack or even coat pocket,   the sound is unbelievable.  You will have no problem hearing your music, videos, games or anything else you do on your Bluetooth devices.  Completely wireless makes this hands free dream something to enjoy having around.

The colors it is available in are bright and attractive and gives you a bit of choice. The design is unique and stylish and the updates that come with it automatically keep it always new and up to date on the latest things going on for the Jambox via MyTalk.  This is what you expect when you spend money on a speaker for your Bluetooth devices.

Philips Fidelio DS8550 Speaker System

January 16th, 2012

Design:

The beautiful curved, sleek design of the DS8550 is designed to enhance the sound of the music and is attractive to the eye as well.  The concave design of the speaker system makes distortion less of an issue and gives a true sound.  The DS8550 comes in an attractive black color with a silver back that goes with any kind of décor in your home or office.  It has the look of a small boom box and can be carried by its convenient handle.

Features:

The features of the Philips Fidelio are appealing to iPod, iPhone and iPad owners for many reasons.  It has a built in rechargeable battery that makes it easy to carry around anywhere you want to hear your music.  iPad users can plug into the device and connect to their Bluetooth devices, listening to music without having to their iPads right with them.

When you buy the Philips Fidelio DS8550, it comes with an app that adds additional features that can make the iPad an alarm clock when it’s on the dock.  Something that is very helpful for those who travel.  4 function buttons on the device itself are simple to find; volume, Bluetooth, power, on/off.   It also comes with a remote control.

Performance:

Battery life varies depending on what you use the device for and how often, but normally you can expect to get 4 hours of fairly heavy use per charge.  The music clarity is excellent, and you definitely aren’t sacrificing performance for size.  Despite it being relatively small and easy to carry, you will love the sounds that this speaker system puts out.

The Good:

Convenient and lightweight with a convenient handle for transport.

Excellent quality sound for your music and gaming

Convenient ability to be an alarm clock when on the dock

4-5 hour battery capacity when used moderately to heavy

Sleek, attractive design

The Bad:

The remote control is not very reliable and doesn’t always work when trying to change operations.  It’s much easier just to use the buttons on the device itself, but for other functions that the remote controls, it is a nuisance having to try and push the buttons repeatedly just to get the device to respond.   The only other negative is the Bluetooth connectivity which is sometimes a bit sketchy. For the price, the remote control and the connectivity should be a lot more reliable than it is.

The Bottom Line:

This really is a great device for all it offers iPad, iPhone, and iPod owners.  It offers versatility, quality music, extra features in the Fidelio app, and it looks fantastic as well.  Definitely worth purchasing if you’re looking for a great docking station and speaker system for your iPad that will be able to be taken anywhere.  Battery life is conveniently about 4-5 hours long per charge which is not bad considering how much music you can play during that time frame.  Even though it’s about $300 the benefits of having it make it a pleasure to own.

JBL On Beat Loudspeaker Dock

January 15th, 2012

Design:

Measuring 5.3 x 10.8 x 5.8 inches, this loudspeaker dock for iPods, iPhones, and iPads, gives you something to be excited about.  The JBL On Beat Speaker is attractive, compact and has a unique weave design that looks great anywhere.

Features:

This dock rotates and works with iPhones, iPods and iPads, letting you have your device either in landscape or portrait modes which give you great versatility for watching videos or typing on it, or just listening to music.  It also has a composite video output which allows you to connect it to any regular TV for viewing on a big screen as well.

The dock comes with a remote control that works your iPod or iPad from as much as 15 feet away which truly gives meaning to the words hands free.  It has easy to use controls, including a mute button, that are not hard to work, and an AC power cord that charges your devices when they are on the docking station.

For the dock to be as small as it is, you will be happily surprised at the quality of sound you will hear when playing your music.  You definitely won’t lose any quality because of the size.  It’s not called a loudspeaker for nothing, and you won’t have to strain to hear the music you want to listen to.

This makes it great for gatherings, parties, private, intimate dinners and any other function you want music for.

Performance:

You will not be disappointed in the overall performance of the JBL On Beat Loudspeaker dock.  Excellent quality sound with plenty of volume when needed, and able to go anywhere you want it to;  A wonderful thing to have when you travel a lot and would love to have hands free music or videos right there in your hotel room.

The frustration comes in when you try to use this device with the iPad.  It is really more designed for the iPhone and iPod.  When you try and attach the iPad to it, it just feels very unsteady and doesn’t hold.  It has an additional arm included for the regular iPad, but you will need to call in to the company to get one for the iPad 2.

The Good:

High quality performance and sound, a good price that is not overly expensive for the quality and sound you get, portable and easy to use as well as attractive in design.  Plenty of cords for the correct connections you might need for doing different things with it.  It also goes into a standby mode after a certain amount of time of nonuse which saves power.

The Bad:

This device doesn’t work well with the iPad 2.  It can’t be held in the landscape mode, which is the best for watching movies, but if you have an iPod or iPhone instead, you will be fine.   The remote control can be temperamental, and doesn’t work at all angles.  You have to point it directly at the front of the device, which can be annoying.

The Bottom Line:

For iPhone and iPod users, this is a great loudspeaker dock that will please the user.  For iPad and iPad 2 users, more than likely something else would be more appealing since this device doesn’t work well with the iPads.   It’s not excessively expensive, and you will be pleased with the sound you get from the speaker.

January 14th, 2012

Design:

The Philips Fidelio Docking Speaker is perfect for anyone who has an iPod, iPhone or iPad. It has a slender, sleek design that fits easily into any briefcase, suitcase, or even a backpack, which makes it a joy to carry. Its sturdy aluminum finish is sharp and looks great with your device.  It also has a convenient carrying case.  It measures approximately 10.2 x 7.7 x 3.7 inches and weighs only about 2 pounds so it’s not too heavy to move around easily anywhere you want it.

Features:

Some of the great features of the Philips Fidelio Docking Speaker are the 10 hour rechargeable battery it comes with, the easy connection to have any electrical device plugged into it, a digital bass boost that makes the music sound great at any level, anywhere.  You will be able to hear all the low, mid and high sounds of any music and you will not be disappointed. You can also enjoy excellent gaming sound effects via your blue tooth and a handy shielding technology that blocks any kind of interference from other mobile devices.

Another excellent feature is the free Fidelio app for anyone who owns the iPod touch, the iPod or iPhone. They get this for free and it unlocks additional features for your docking station such as having access to 7000 or more free internet radio stations, weather conditions, alarms you can set to wake you up to music, weather or photos.  This feature makes having this docking station even more enjoyable to have since it gives you so much more capabilities.

Performance:

One of the amazing things about the Philips Fidelio Docking Speaker is the amazing sound it offers.  With its unique bass boosting capability, you will be able to feel the music at any volume level and it gives true superior sound that you will be able to enjoy anywhere.  Since many docking stations and speaker stands don’t have much higher quality sound than not using anything extra at all, this is a major performance benefit that music lovers will really appreciate.

The Good:

Sleek design, easy and lightweight to carry, excellent sound capability and extra features for iPod and iPhone owners, and 10 hours of playback time on a rechargeable battery.  All these are terrific features and positives about the Philips Fidelio Docking Speaker.

The Bad:

The cost could be prohibitive to some who don’t have that much to spend, but if you’re looking for something reliable that will give you some great sound, this is worth the money.  The app is good for some and others don’t like it, so it’s not a “bad” as much as it is a personal preference.

The Bottom Line:

The Philips Fidelio Docking Speaker is a good investment for anyone who is an avid listener of music and wants an easy, portable, docking station that will enhance the sounds of their music.  The design, the ease of use and the additional capabilities the Fidelio app gives are worth the cost.  For anyone who is a music lover, it’s definitely a way to go.

iHome iDM12BC Rechargeable Portable Bluetooth Speaker System

January 14th, 2012

Design:

This speaker may look small, but it doesn’t put out small sound.  Measuring 2.4 x 7.2 x 2.4 inches, it’s easy to hook up to your iPod, iPad, iPhone wirelessly through Bluetooth and listen to your favorite music wherever you are.  Black in design, it goes with anything and makes a great speaker for personal use such as on your desk or nightstand or on the kitchen counter while you cook dinner.

Features:

The iHome iDM12BC is compatible iPad, iPhone and iPod models.  You can charge your device while it plays as well with a usb cord.  If you need a wall plug you can use an adapter to make the usb into a wall plug for charging.  Bluetooth wireless capability makes getting connected and having hands free music a breeze.  For traveling, the iHome iDM12C comes with a magnetic cover that keeps the speaker and stand together.  Has a rechargeable battery also so you don’t have to worry about losing any music time.

Performance:

Despite its size, the sound that the iHome iDM12BC has great quality sound that will fill your room or office with the music you love with no hissing or popping that can happen with less quality speakers.  There are some issues with the high end music such as alternative rock that can sound very piercing which makes it hard to listen to, but for jazz, blues, and lower end tones, it seems to do really well.  It’s definitely worth trying all kinds of music because it could be just one or two specific songs and not the whole genre of alternative music.

This isn’t the speaker to use for a major party because it just isn’t loud enough to be heard over a lot of background noise, but for personal or more intimate settings it works really well.

The Good:

Convenient size with a magnetic cover that keeps speaker and stand together for easy travel; Charges and docks your iPad, iPhone and iPod while you play it; Bluetooth wireless makes it a great hands free device.  For the quality of sound and ease of use, the price is excellent also.

The Bad:

Sometimes the high end sound is a bit shrill and can be “too” high, so the higher toned music doesn’t always sound great.  The volume at its highest isn’t very loud, but there are iPad apps that you can download that will boost the volume.    The iHome doesn’t provide the adapter for the charging plug, which is a nuisance if you don’t have access to a computer with a usb port.  The foot on the back of the device that holds it upright is a bit weak and could be much stronger.

The Bottom Line:

The iHome iDM12BC is an inexpensive way to add some great sound to your iPad, iPhone or iPod.  Sleek, portable design that is Bluetooth wireless capable which means you can listen to your favorite music anywhere.   Works in the car, at the beach, in the office, at your desk and anywhere else you want to listen to music.

This device is awesome for anyone who travels and would like to have music in their hotel room where radios aren’t always available.  In addition to playing great sounding music, the iHome iDM12BC also charges your iPad, iPod, or iPhone while you’re playing music if you have access to an usb port or have the adapter to make it into a wall charger.

For this kind of price, you would expect to get a lot less quality but that’s not what you will have with this device.  You’ll get great tone and sound without breaking your wallet.

ISOUND-4531 Power View Pro Charging Dock

January 12th, 2012

Design:

If you’re looking for a docking station for the whole apple family, look no further, you’ve found it.  Measuring 12.9 x 6.1 x 3.1 inches, this charging dock can charge 2 devices at the same time and has 2 additional USB ports that allow you to charge other USB devices as well.   Has a very attractive, simple and sleek design that looks good anywhere.

Features:

Compatible with the iPad and iPad 2 and iPhone4 makes a great docking/charging station for the whole iPad family.  Has the capability to be used as a media stand with its horizontal slots.  If you have several iPhones or iPods, you will be able to charge 2 at a time, plus charge additional USB chargeable devices with the ports on the back.  With the charging slots on top, you don’t need any additional wires.

Performance:

Performance is excellent and it charges the devices that you need charged efficiently.  You will be able to charge your iPad, your iPhone and iPod all at the same time which for those with multiple devices, this is a great time saver, no more having to wait and charge one device at a time.

The charging dock works better with the iPad than the iPad 2.  The iPad two doesn’t fit into the dock correctly and it can lose connection because of this.  The iPad 2 is slimmer in design than the original iPad and the company didn’t seem to take this into consideration.  There is a dock adapter in the works for the iPad 2, but if you have one now, and want a device that will work for your iPad2, you might want to wait to purchase this one until that adapter is definitely included.

The Good:

Convenient and efficient for charging multiple devices at the same time and the ability to watch movies on your iPad while it charges on the docking station in one of the horizontal slots.  Easy to take with you on trips, or even bring to the office and charge your devices there if you need to.  It’s great for users who own many different devices or who have family members with different devices.

The Bad:

The power cord that plugs in the docking station is long and kind of bulky with the large power box in the center like a laptop cord.  The devices can’t be charged in the docking slots with cases on because they are bigger than the slots, so this can be an inconvenience to owners to have to remove the cases first.  This doesn’t work well with the iPad 2 even though it states that it is compatible with both iPad models.

The Bottom Line:

If you have several apple devices, this is the docking station for you.  The cost is really inexpensive for what you get in this charging station which makes it great for those who don’t have a ton of money to spend.  You can even set it up on the nightstand while it’s charging your iPad and watch movies even if you’re away from home on business travel.  If you’re looking for a place to handle all your charging needs in one place, this is the dock you need.

If you have an iPad 2, you will want to check with the company first to see if they have that adapter for the iPad 2 ready yet.  It won’t work well without it for that model of iPad.
